Youthfulness in Womanhood
"People always think I’m younger than I am, partly because of my baby face and partly because I always gravitated toward youthful things growing up. I still do, but I think I’ve found a way to appreciate the whimsy of the world with a wise perspective.
You’ll find whispers of youthfulness in my clothes as a nod to the days when life was simpler, but you’ll also see the beauty of womanhood. Even though we age, we don’t have to eliminate the simple things that bring us joy." - Bethany Sorenson
Adulthood has made it way too easy to lose delight and creativity. Our responsibilities pile up, we've experienced pain, and most of us find ourselves saying, “I don’t have enough time.” We forget to make time for delight in the ordinary of our lives. But we weren’t always this way, not when we were kids.
At Dahl, one of our favorite reminders of youthfulness is Anne of Green Gables. Anne was born into a lot of sadness and hardship, but her imagination was one of her pillars of strength. She never stopped imagining and finding things in the world to find beauty and life in.
She would say things like...
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there’s Octobers,” or "It would give me such a thrill Marilla to wear a dress with puffed sleeves."
To many sensible and practical adults, Anne was seen as naive or impractical. Many would laugh at her and call her a silly girl. But Anne lived with such passion and conviction for all that she did and all that she loved. She made many laugh and inspired bravery in several.
In each one of us there is a whimsical Anne, and a practical Marilla Cuthburt (Anne’s adopted mom). In reality, we can’t forsake one for the other, but we can make sure to have both.

Through Dahl, we aim to pair the ordinary of life, with the extraordinary of it.
Bethany designs pieces for the ordinary functions of life, with extra details such as a puffed sleeve or a piece of lace to elevate your look with beauty and whimsy. We will post real stories – ones with cancer updates and stories about doing chores. And we will also share the romantic moments of traipsing through the fields in the Alps. All of these moments deserve our attention.
As we age, let us keep youthfulness close. This will be one of our greatest strenghts.
With Love,
Kelsey & Bethany
